On The Dino Trail - Photo Recap - Cleveland and Columbus OH 11.05.09

Air Guitar Soloing to my own music.  Shameful.  True story: Kurt Cobain is the reason I still wear long sleeve shirts under short sleeve shirts.

I played rock music live for the Kings & Queens of AP.  It was incredible fun.  A blindfolded birthday girl nearly heart attacked when my face was revealed to her.  Was it fear or pleasure?  I’ll never know.

Best time had doing a photo shoot ever!  It was unfortunate that they had me draw that much of my own blood to fill the cylinder though.

I tagged the fucking wall while Scott Heisel stood lookout.  Why?  Because I am a straight up Bad Ass.

Self Portrait.  No Lessons.

Catching up with Dan Konopka of Ok Go before his set @ The Basement in Columbus.

I wanna hold you.  I wanna know you.  I wanna feel you.  I wanna be with you.

Dorm life late night party-a-thon at Holly’s joint.  Sorry I was losing my mind with the sickness and I hope I didn’t infect any of you lovely humans.

Shortly after my attempt to be like a robot, I was rushed to the hospital.  It was anybody’s guess there for a while, but luckily I pulled through.

Thanks to all who came out in both Cleveland and Columbus.  Sorry I was such a sneezy, sloppy mess.  I have been recuperating like mad crazy in my Minneapolis home for the past few days and I am nearly ready to get back out there.

Rumor has it the first stop of The Dinosaur Trail Version 2.0(now with less actual sickness) will be Pittsburgh, PA on 11/12/09.  Set your alarms.  Let’s get crazy!

-Justin.

A list of films…

While I was sick I watched the following films in the following order:

Pierrot Le Fou : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycg2yb3qiUo (I liked it, but it did not blow my mind like Masculin Feminin, Breathless, or Band Of Outsiders.)

Michael Collins : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76-Ggwbh0Lk&feature=fvw (Liam Neeson can do no wrong. I also eat everything Neil Jordan serves. Yes, that includes: In Dreams, so suck it.  This is a wonderful Biopic. Rock.)

Absolute Power : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2Q7eIl6Ruk (Clint Eastwood makes solid movies. This one was not great, but pretty damn good. Shit, rveryone and their mother is in this joint. Laura Linney AND Judy Davis? Together in one film? Holy shit! They are my Rushmore’s, Max.)

White Oleander : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An6T_66uHLI (My special lady friend made me watch this. I am a sucker for Alison Lohman, so I conceded. Pretty damn good movie. Made me angry and upset. I like it when a movie moves me. That just reminded me of a Braid song…)

Alice : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5oLg2WJ8h0 (I don’t know if this is available non dubbed, but I’d dig getting my mittens on that version. The dubbing was terrible and the only thing that took me out of the game while I was watching were: The God Damn Narrating Lips. Ugh. I have a sneaking suspicion that Mr. Jan Svankmajer and The Brothers Quay are somehow related. Truly Fucked Up. Truly Genius.)

The Doom Generation : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDmt5i-sg3s (I’ve seen this film many times. It was one of three I was allowed to show to my special lady friend. Visually amazing, Verbally repugnant. Not as good as Nowhere, but fun none-the-less. Cameo by Parker Posey makes me all giddy ‘n’ shit.)

Barcelona : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnytcMClO38 (Whatever happened to Whit Stillman? Motherfucker makes three movies and splits. Unfair. I’ve seen this film several times. The lady wanted something Woody Allen but not Woody Allen or Noah Baumbach but not Noah Baumbach. Whit Stillman fits right in there. Solid, humorous and often over my head.)

Strange Days : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yaXPx6xWEQ (Kathryn Bigelow knows how to make action/tension movies. See Point Break and/or Near Dark and/or The Hurt Locker for reference. By far one of my favorite near future low-fi/sci-fi films ever. Look for Lord Voldemort as a strung out software pimping junkie.)

Boyz N The Hood : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ZNafAFTo8 (I’ve pretty much written off John Singleton as hokey/stupid. So I never gave this movie a chance. I apologize. This is by far the best film of his I’ve ever seen and it’s not over the top cheesy. Laurence Fishburne made me feel proud to be a human.)

Alien Nation : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1jURDHRINY (Was this terrible or genius? I have no idea. But it had Mandy Patinkin in it and he makes me laugh without even trying. Would I watch it again? Not so much.)

That has been it up until 8PM Central Standard Time today.  I’m sure I’ll be watching more movies as the days grow long.  Thanks for tuning in.  Until next time…

-Justin

DAY FOUR: DETROIT 11.05.09

Two dudes, rockin’ out to the delicious vibes that The Grown Ups be playin’.

Alternative angle displays: There are more humans in the room than we originally thought.

Mrs. V’s classroom of exceptionally kick ass students!

Mrs. V is multi-talented and especially clever with what we in the business call: The Rhyme.

This kid was not so bright.  But through his ignorance, we all learned a valuable lesson.  Remember the car crash commercials? “You can learn a lot from a dummy!”  This guy was a Grade-A Ding-Dong.  Ding-Dong!

I still don’t know if these were supposed to be glasses or a giant letter B.

Mrs. V & JCP reenacting a scene from Paul Thomas Anderson’s film: Magnolia where the woman handcuffed to the couch says, “That ain’t mine!”  Or not.

I was invited to talk and listen to the students of The Paul Green School Of Rock.

I did not heed the warnings.  Now my Rad levels are way out of whack.  Gonna need some Rad-X and some Stimpacks to get this under control.

After we rocked, we took this group picture.  Special thanks to all who helped me out on Everything Is Alright.  I would’ve been lost without you.

We started to jam on The People Mover, but security busted up the party midway through Broken Heart(featuring Augie and Koko(who is more commonly known as Mrs. V when teaching High School) form The Hard Lessons).  We moved the party outside.

The Hard Lessons rocked the joint while I stared on in pure bewilderment.

Thanks to all who came out in Detroit!  Had a blast running amok in and out of the city all day.  Special hearts go out to Augie and Koko for letting me come to your schools and confuse the children with my madcap ramblings(also, for the ravioli).

Coming soon: The Grown Ups vs. Justin Pierre song…

Next Stop: Cleveland/Columbus.

DAY THREE: LANSING 11.03.09

Pondering the infinite.

No lie, the entrance to the Capitol was under the stairs.  There were PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS!

There weren’t a whole lot of Voters out there, but there was a guy who ran for Mayor and lost.  I tried to recruit a field trip of elementary schoolers to watch, but their guardian probably thought I was a real creeper.

DeWitt High School Parking Lot gets faces figuratively rocked off!

Thanks for braving the cold, you crazy kids.  After this, a few of us went to see Zombieland.  10 minutes of it was worth the entire $5.00 I spent.  That’s all I’ll say.

Outside of The All-American Rejects show @ MSU.

Team Dinosaur handed out hot chocolate to the frozen bones.  We were a hit.

Catching up with Mike (of The All-American Rejects) before he kicked everyone’s ass on stage!

Thanks to all who came out.  The weather was against us, but we fared well under the circumstances.  Special thanks goes out to indiebizchicks.com!  Thanks for the cookies.  They were devoured in a matter of hours.

Next stop: Detroit.
